HHPS is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Hernando County, Florida. Founded in 2008 and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in 2011, HHPS fosters public appreciation and understanding of the region’s history through collaboration with professional archaeologists, historians, and local organizations to document and protect historic sites, organize educational programs, and advocate for the preservation of significant landmarks.
Through monthly meetings, guest lectures, walking tours, and historic home showcases, HHPS brings history to life for residents and visitors alike. Our volunteers work tirelessly to install state markers, publish educational materials, and promote heritage tourism—ensuring that the stories of our past continue to inspire future generations.

Joining the HHPS is not only a rewarding way to connect with local history—it’s a powerful act of community stewardship. As a member, you’ll gain access to tours, educational programs, and expert-led workshops while actively contributing to the protection of Hernando County’s historic landmarks, cemeteries, and cultural sites. Your support helps fund advocacy efforts, historical marker installations, and public outreach that preserve the stories and structures that define our region’s identity. Whether you're a preservation professional or simply passionate about history, your membership ensures that Hernando’s legacy remains vibrant, visible, and valued for generations to come.
